Heartfelt celebration of giving

‘Something for Mom’ program blesses women

MDN File Photo Chappy Windsor, shown in this December 2021 photo, was inspired by her grandmother for Dakota Chappy’s annual “Something for Mom” program. The program ensures moms are remembered at Christmas.

A program to ensure no mother or women in the community goes without a gift under the tree is continuing this year.

Dakota Chappy, a Minot apparel shop, launched its “Something for Mom” initiative a few years ago.

“Participants can shop for clothing, accessories, and note cards from our blessings program completely free of charge. After selecting their items, shoppers can make use of our gift-wrapping station, adding a personal touch to their gifts,” Chappy Windsor, owner of the Minot apparel shop, said in Dakota Chappy information.

For those who find it challenging to receive, she said they offer an option for freewill offerings, which helps sustain the store’s blessings program.

Meaningful tradition

According to Windsor, the concept of the program was inspired by her grandmother who went without a Christmas gift so that everyone else could celebrate.

“Her sisters have always shared the story of the year there wasn’t anything for mom. This program is not just about receiving a gift; it’s about creating opportunities for people, especially children, to experience the joy of giving,” Windsor said.

This year’s “Something for Mom” program will be Tuesday, Dec. 23, from 12-7 p.m. at Dakota Chappy, 813 N. Broadway.

A new feature of the program this year includes gently used items donated by Dakota Chappy customers.

“Everyone is welcome to join us, whether picking up a gift for a mother, grandmother, or even for themselves. Bring the kids, partners, and friends — no pre-registration is required, and we’ll have a variety of sizes available to ensure everyone finds something special,” Windsor said.

“We believe that the act of giving is just as significant as receiving. By letting recipients choose and wrap their gifts, we foster a deeper connection to the spirit of generosity,” she added.

Windsor said the ongoing support from Dakota Chappy’s customers makes events like this possible. “Together, we can change lives and strengthen our community,” she said.

Starting at $2.99/week.
