First graduates make history at Minot North

Members of the Class of 2025 made history at Minot North High School this past spring when they walked across the stage as the new school’s first graduates. Graduation was held Sunday, May 25.
The class of 183 seniors established the tradition and identity of the Minot North Sentinels as they received the school’s first diplomas.
Minot Public Schools had entered a new era in 2024 with the opening of the new high school. About 1,000 students enrolled at Minot North in its inaugural year, according to information from the Dec. 31, 2024, edition of The Minot Daily News.
Minot North High School completed the majority of its construction phases and renovation of the former Cognizant facility for classes to begin on Aug. 21, 2024. Minot Public Schools had been one of the last districts in the nation to split its high school grades between two campuses. The district now has two 9-12 high schools in Minot North and Minot High, and the former Central Campus building transitioned into Central Middle School.
Although Minot North opened for classes in 2024, it was 2025 that brought the completion of the school’s aquatics facility and theater.
The theater hosted its first performance when “The Crucible” was presented Feb. 27-March 1. The new theater has seating for 636 people and offers additional lighting and the ability to attach items to the ceiling.
In February, the school board issued an emergency declaration to address roof repairs for the pool structure at Minot North. The roof over the pool sustained damage during high winds in October 2024. The roof was shored up while awaiting repairs, but water damage had been observed inside the building. The emergency declaration allowed for additional quotes from contractors to move the repair process along.
