A house and garage sustained extensive damage in a fire in southeast Minot Saturday, Dec. 27, according to the Minot Fire Department.

The department responded at 4:36 a.m. to a report of a house fire in the 4600 block of 16th Avenue Southeast, observing fire showing from a residential home with a detached garage. Both the home and garage were showing heavy smoke and fire. Firefighters conducted multiple searches of both the home and the detached garage while fire suppression efforts were ongoing and confirmed that no occupants were inside. The property owner was not home at the time of the fire. The fire was contained to the property of origin.

The department reported the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
