The Ward County Sheriff’s Office recently swore in four new patrol deputies who are joining the agency in its mission to serve and protect the residents of Ward County.
Sheriff Bob Roed administered the oaths as the agency welcomed deputies Allen Hall, Cal Carnell, Marshall Howard and Joshua Rohrich.
Carnell, Howard and Rohrich, who were sworn in Nov. 21, will be attending the North Dakota Law Enforcement Training Academy. Hall is a licensed officer who retired after a career with the U.S. Border Patrol and served as Kenmare’s chief of police. He was sworn in earlier this month.
The four new deputies have begun field training and will serve communities across Ward County as they progress into solo assignments, according to the sheriff’s office.
Roed said the new hires fill the vacancies created with the loss last month of four officers who left to join the Minot Police Department, a situation that led to discussion with the county commission about salary adjustments to remain competitive in the job market.
The new additions return the sheriff’s office to fully staffed, although there is training that will need to occur, Roed said. The department currently has had two deputies in training at the academy and will be sending the additional three deputies.
