ND congressional delegation responds to reopening government

WASHINGTON – North Dakota’s congressional delegation released comments following the vote in the House Wednesday to pass a continuing resolution to fund the federal government through Jan. 30. President Donald Trump also signed the bill Wednesday.

“From the start, Republicans made clear we wouldn’t compromise on common sense. Thankfully, we didn’t have to,” Congresswoman Julie Fedorchak, R-ND, said. “The completely avoidable Schumer Shutdown created needless hardship for millions of Americans, only to end up right where we started — passing a clean CR. It is high time we get the government working for the American people again.”

“After more than 40 days, the record-breaking Schumer Shutdown is officially over. Thank you, President Trump, Majority Leader John Thune, and Speaker Mike Johnson, for your leadership and engagement. Now let’s get to work!” Sen. Kevin Cramer, R-ND, said.

“Now that both houses of Congress have approved this legislation we can get the government reopened for the good of the American people,” Sen. John Hoeven, R-ND, said. “We worked to negotiate this package to both fund the government but also get us back to regular order with passage of three full-year appropriations bills, including our ag appropriations bill for our farmers and ranchers. That’s the right way to appropriate so we can fund our priorities while finding savings to reduce the debt and deficit. Next, the Senate will take up the Defense Appropriations bill to ensure we properly fund our great troops and their defense missions. This shutdown has gone on for too long and now that the government is funded we can continue moving forward with the appropriations process and the work of the American people.”
