McHenry County seeks input on zoning ordinance

TOWNER – The McHenry County Planning and Zoning Commission is seeking input from the public as part of an effort to update the county’s zoning ordinance. The goal of this update is to ensure it reflects current community goals, adheres to state and federal requirements and addresses emerging types of development.

The zoning ordinance affects the location and manner by which homes and businesses can be built, as well as the provision of public infrastructure to accommodate new growth. The intent of this update is to modernize the regulations, encourage compatible development and to support the implementation of McHenry County’s Comprehensive Plan.

Residents, property owners and community stakeholders are invited to share thoughts and ideas with the steering committee assembled to oversee this process. Proposed amendments are to be written and brought later to the McHenry County Planning and Zoning Commission and then McHenry County Commission for consideration.
