Justices announce candidacy for chief justice position

Two North Dakota Supreme Court justices have announced their candidacy for the position of chief justice.

Justices Lisa Fair McEvers and Jerod Tufte announced their candidacy to fill the chief justice seat after current Chief Justice Jon Jensen announced earlier in November he would not seek re-election.

To be eligible for the position, an individual must be a current Supreme Court justice, with the chief justice selected by a majority vote of the sitting Supreme Court and District Court judges. The chief is appointed to a five year term or until that justice’s term on the Supreme Court expires, whichever comes first.

The ballots will be opened and counted at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 10.

Starting at $2.99/week.
