GARRISON- The Dickens Village Festival in Garrison begins the holiday season Friday, Nov. 28, and Saturday, Nov. 29. It will continue for the next two weekends, Dec. 5-6 and Dec. 12-13.

The annual event transforms the 1,500-resident community into a quaint “Victorian town from the era of Charles Dickens,” according to festival information.

Visitors can expect a wide array of attractions this year. Street-food vendors will line Main Street, offering seasonal treats and snacks.

Festivalgoers also can ride an authentic English double-decker bus — known as the “Queen Elizabus” — or a horse-drawn carriage.

The Parade of Lights on Main Street is scheduled for Friday and Saturday evenings during each festival weekend. The parade begins at dusk (about 5:30 p.m.)

The Piccadilly Square Craft Show held in the City Auditorium will have handmade goods, holiday treats and souvenirs.

Live performances including local talent, and tribute artists and bands are planned during the festival.

Daily attractions also include children’s top-hat decorating, reindeer meet-and-greet on Saturdays, a side trip to the Fort Stevenson State Park Guardhouse for historical displays, and various crafts and photo-opportunities.

The original theatrical performance of “A Christmas Carol, the event that inspired the festival’s creation since 1994, remains part of the event and is presented during the festival.
