Community mourns loss in discovery of woman missing since Nov. 1

FORT TOTTEN – The body of a missing 20-year-old Spirit Lake woman was discovered and uncovered from the waters in the Devils Lake area on Thursday, Nov. 6, according to Spirit Lake Nation.

Danica “Tynee” White, a Spirit Lake tribal member, had been missing since Saturday, Nov. 1, at about 6 a.m. She was found shortly before 3 p.m. Thursday following a search operation involving multiple local, state and federal agencies.

“This was not the resolution we hoped for, but we are committed to providing support for Danica’s family during this incredibly difficult time. Our thoughts and prayers are with them as they navigate this heartbreaking loss,” Spirit Lake Fire Chief and Incident Commander Joseph “JJ” Jetty said in a statement.

According to Spirit Lake Nation information, White’s last known location had been established through a 911 call in which she indicated she needed assistance, prompting an immediate response from local authorities. She had been last seen near BIA Road 25.

Tribal Chairwoman Lonna Jackson-Street reflected on the community’s strength and shared commitment to supporting Danica’s family.

“Our hearts are heavy with this news. Danica was a vibrant young woman with her whole life ahead of her,” she said in a statement.

A fund has been established to assist with funeral expenses.
