The Minot High School Playmakers will be presenting “The Wizard of Oz” musical, based on the movie and L. Frank Baum’s classic novel, “The Wonderful Wizard of Oz,” from Thursday-Saturday, Oct. 30-Nov. 1.
The book and musical follow a girl named Dorothy and her dog Toto, who are transported into a world called Oz. As she tries to find her way back home, she befriends a tinman, lion and scarecrow and looks for the wizard of Oz to solve a problem each one of them has.
The show contains classic songs such as “Somewhere over the Rainbow” and “We’re Off to See the Wizard.”
Doors open at 7 p.m., and performances start at 7:30 p.m. in Minot High’s Arvel Graving Theatre all three nights. Tickets can be purchased at the door.
When actors were asked what they are most excited about in the play, Lucy Hale, a junior who plays Nikko, said, “Probably Nikko. It’s such a funny character, so it will be really fun to play him, but the jitterbug scene seems fun too.”
“The audience should look forward to the band’s music. It’s really hard music so it’ll be cool,” said Izzy Peatross, a senior who plays the scarecrow. Asked about wanting to be in this play, Peatross said, “I wanted a play I can bring my family and friends to, no matter what age, and I feel that it’s really family friendly.”
