Area schools awarded federal grants

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Two area schools will be receiving U.S. Department of Education grants.

Sen. Kevin Cramer, R-ND, announced $658,478 will be distributed to the two schools under the Demonstration Grants for Indian Children Program. These grants fund the development, testing, and demonstration of the effectiveness of services and programs to improve educational opportunities and achievement of Native American children in preschool, elementary and secondary schools.

Turtle Mountain will receive $364,016 and the Devils Lake Public School District will receive $294,462.

The University of North Dakota will receive $298,028 for Indian education and professional development from the Indian Education Professional Development Grant.
