Watford City man dies at pipeline worksite

TIOGA – A Watford City man has died after being struck by a piece of pipeline equipment at a worksite near Tioga, according to information released by the Mountrail County Sheriff’s Department Friday, Sept. 19.

Sheriff Corey Bristol provided information stating the man, whose name has not yet been released, suffered fatal injuries in the work-related incident on Thursday, Sept. 18.

A 911 call was received at the Mountrail County Dispatch Center at 10:35 a.m., reporting that a worker had been struck in the head by a piece of pipeline equipment at the intersection of 101st Avenue and 68th Street Northwest. The caller reported the victim was bleeding severely.

The Tioga Ambulance Service and officers from the Mountrail County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched, and the injured man was transported to Tioga Medical Center, where he died from his injuries.

Mountrail County Sheriff’s Department officers dispatched to the scene found the work crew was doing routine maintenance on a Hess Oil Co. pipeline when the incident occurred. Officials from the Occupational Health and Safety Administration have been contacted and will be conducting an investigation, according to the sheriff’s department.

The body has been transported to the North Dakota Forensic Examiner’s Office in Bismarck for autopsy.
