NPCAC to host child abuse awareness event at Oak Park
Northern Plains Children’s Advocacy Center (NPCAC) invites the community to help increase awareness around victims of abuse, especially children, at the Save Jane event Friday, Oct. 3, at 6 p.m. in the Minot’s Oak Park Amphitheater.
Staff, board members and the public will read the names of the 645 child victims who were served at the advocacy center last year and the crimes committed against them. To protect their identities, “Jane Doe” and “John Doe” are used in place of actual names. Anyone interested in reading names should contact the center at 852-0836.
The presence of those who attend sends a message of hope, healing and solidarity to children who need it most, the NPCAC stated in a news release.
“We are here to give these children a voice,” said Christal Halseth, NPCAC executive director, in the release. “Every year, we serve more children than the last. If we don’t fight for them, then who will?”
The NPCAC provides a compassionate and effective way to serve children victimized by sexual abuse and other crimes while restoring hope. Families that come to the advocacy center are never charged for services; funding for NPCAC comes from grants and community donations.
