New partnership strengthens health care access for military

HealthyDakota Mutual Holdings, the parent company of Blue Cross Blue Shield of North Dakota and Noridian Healthcare Solutions, has announced it has made a strategic investment in TriWest Healthcare Alliance, provider of health care services for U.S. military members, veterans and their families.

Military members, veterans and their families will benefit from expanded access to high-quality, community-based health care through the TriWest Healthcare Alliance, now administered in partnership with Blue Cross Blue Shield of North Dakota (BCBSND).

While TRICARE already provides robust coverage, the partnership with TriWest and BCBSND enhances access in several key ways:

– Expanded provider network: TriWest is actively growing its network in North Dakota, including Minot, to ensure nearly all specialties are available locally. TriWest in partnership with BCBSND is actively onboarding new providers in North Dakota to meet growing demand and ensure comprehensive care access. Patients benefit from a broader provider network, faster referrals and enhanced services such as mental health, dental, vision and specialized care.

– Improved referral flexibility: TriWest has waived certain referral approval requirements for outpatient specialty care, making it easier for TRICARE enrollees to access needed services without delays.

– Technology upgrades: TriWest has improved its beneficiary portal and added features such as call-back options to reduce waiting times and enhance service.

HealthyDakota’s investment will support TriWest’s delivery of health care services to active-duty service members, active-duty family members, National Guard and Reserve members and their families, retirees and family members, survivors and certain former spouses in North Dakota and the western U.S.

“This isn’t just a financial decision. It’s a reflection of our values,” said Dan Conrad, president and CEO of HealthyDakota Mutual Holdings, in a news release. “By partnering with TriWest, we’re ensuring military families can access the care they’ve earned. It’s one way we can show up for the people who have shown up for all of us.”
