More information released on fatal plane crash
DILLINGHAM, ALASKA – The National Transportation Safety Board has released its preliminary report on the July 25 plane crash in Dillingham, Alaska, in which a Minot native was killed.
John Landsiedel V, 33, who was living in Dillingham, died in the crash of the Piper J3C-65 plane. He was the only person in the plane.
According to the NTSB report released last week, shortly after the plane performed a touch-and-go landing on the gravel surface adjacent to a runway at the Dillingham Airport, witnesses reported the plane then climbed to an altitude of about 200 feet above the runway. The plane’s engine then experienced a momentary loss of power followed by an engine restart. The nose of the plane pitched up, slowed and the left wing stalled, resulting in an uncontrolled, nose-down descent. During the descent, the plane engine reportedly experienced another loss of power. The plane then crashed into the runway, according to the report.
A final report is pending.
