Male suspect arrested after accidental weapon discharge in northwest Minot

A Minot man has been arrested and another has been hospitalized after an accidental weapon discharge the evening of Thursday, Sept. 11.

According to the Minot Police Department, officers were dispatched to a residence in northwest Minot at about 7:34 p.m. Thursday for a report of a male with a gunshot wound. Officers arrived on scene and began rendering life-saving efforts to the victim in the front yard. After the scene was secured, first responders administered aid to the 50 year old man, who was transported to a Minot hospital for treatment for serious injuries. The victim is reported to be in stable condition.

Also according to the Minot Police Department, officers determined that Jesse David Cureton, 38, accidentally discharged a rifle inside his residence. The round exited through his front door and struck the victim, a neighbor, who was walking on the sidewalk.

Cureton was arrested for aggravated assault, a Class C felony, and was taken into custody without incident. He is being held at the Ward County Jail.
