Committee making plans for Ryder’s 120th anniversary
RYDER – A committee has been formed to plan activities for the 120th anniversary of the city of Ryder.
An initial meeting was held recently. Another meeting has been scheduled for Thursday, Sept. 25, at 7 p.m. at the Ryder Star Bar and Grill. The meeting is open to everyone.
The 120th anniversary is being planned for Friday and Saturday, June 19-20, 2026.
According to Ryder history, in the spring of 1906, Ed E. Fredeen, acting as an agent for the Soo Railroad, made the purchase of the present townsite from an early homesteader.
Prior, “Old” Ryder, which began as “Centerville,” was established a short distance from the new location and the post office was established there. It was named Ryder for an individual affiliated with a Minot business.
The “New” Ryder site, located three miles north and a half mile west of “Old” Ryder, grew from lots going on sale July 19, 1906, followed by construction of buildings. The first train arrived in late 1906.
