City’s first deputy police chief sworn in to office

Charles Crane/MDN Minot Mayor Mark Jantzer swears in Dale Plessas as deputy police chief at Minot City Hall Wednesday, Sept. 3.

Minot’s first deputy police chief was sworn in to office on Wednesday, Sept. 3.

Interim Minot City Manager Tom Joyce served as master of ceremonies for the proceedings and called Dale Plessas’ appointment as deputy chief of police a “milestone.” Joyce reckoned Plessas is the first deputy chief in the Minot Police Department’s history.

Plessas has been with the Minot Police Department for 24 years, is a graduate of the FBI National Academy and most recently serving as captain, Investigations commander and interim police chief.

“The role of deputy chief carries grave responsibility, leading the vision, integrity and steadfast commitment to the safety and well-being of our community. Today marks not only the official beginning of that leadership journey for this role, but also the continuation of a career dedicated to service,” Joyce said. “Deputy Chief Dale Plessas brings with him a wealth of experience, a proven dedication to justice, and a passion for strengthening the bonds between our department and community we serve.”

Minot Mayor Mark Jantzer swore in Plessas, saying his dedication and leadership had proven he was the most suited for the position. Minot Police Chief Michael Frye then assisted Plessas’ wife, Jackie, with affixing his badge and pins.

Plessas acknowledged those in attendance and in particular singled out his family and his “family in blue,” some of whom were arrayed behind him.

“It’s an important step for me to take, and I don’t take it lightly. A lot of nice things have been said about me. I pray to do my best to make the city of Minot proud and always honor my department and my city,” Plessas said.

Joyce concluded the ceremony, saying Plessas embodied all the qualities required of law enforcement and honored the Minot Police officers of the past.

“We look forward with confidence, confident that under your guidance the Minot Police Department will continue to grow stronger, more responsive and more connected to the people it serves,” Joyce said.
