Christmas Eve murder trial rescheduled to March

Daniel Brejio
The jury trial of a Surrey man charged in the Christmas Eve 2023 shooting death of Nicholas Van Pelt has been rescheduled after a hearing in North Central District Court on Friday, Sept. 26.
The trial of Daniel Breijo, 41, was originally scheduled to begin on Oct. 6 after District Court Judge Daniel El-Dweek rejected a proposed plea agreement between the parties. The Class AA murder charge would have been reduced to Class B felony manslaughter, and Breijo would have served 20 years if the deal had been accepted.
According to court records, the new trial date has been scheduled for 10 days, beginning on March 16.
