BLM leases coal to Falkirk Mine
BILLINGS, Mont. – The Bureau of Land Management has announced Falkirk Mining Company of Underwood was the high bidder for a lease to mine 11.3 million tons of available federal coal across about 800 acres for $79,996 at Falkirk Mine in McLean County.
The mine also will generate annual rental fees of $3 per acre and a 7% royalty payment on coal produced. Royalties paid will be shared evenly between the State of North Dakota and the U.S. Treasury. These leases support energy independence, rural economic development, and fiscal responsibility, all while ensuring fair returns for U.S. taxpayers.
This lease sale aligns with the federal administration’s priority to unleash American energy by removing regulatory barriers and encouraging energy exploration and production on federal lands.
