Woman charged after pursuit in stolen vehicle

A Minot woman was arrested and charged after fleeing Minot Police in a stolen vehicle Wednesday, Aug. 13.

According to information from the Minot Police Department, an officer attempted to stop a 2015 Dodge Ram 2500 pickup in the 300 block of Airport Road shortly before 4 a.m. The vehicle matched the description from an Aug. 12 incident on Heritage Drive in which a suspect displayed a spent rifle casing and made threatening gestures toward a resident.

When the officer activated emergency lights, the driver, later identified as 45-year old Cassandra Dee Brekke, failed to stop. Brekke continued driving east through Minot at or near the posted speed limit, avoiding multiple spike strip deployments by Minot Police and Ward County Sheriff’s Office units. At 37th Street Southeast, deputies successfully deployed spike strips, puncturing all four tires. Despite the damage, Brekke continued driving on rims until entering Holiday Park Trailer Court, where she stopped and was taken into custody without injury.

During the investigation, officers learned the pickup had been stolen. The registeredowners were unaware it had been taken and did not know Brekke.

Brekke was transported to the Ward County Jail on charges of possession of a stolen motor vehicle, a Class B felony; fleeing or attempting to elude a police officer- second offense in three years, a Class C felony; and reckless driving, a Class B misdemeanor.

The incident remains under investigation.
