Trinity unveils new mammography technology
Wendy Harper/MDN Sammy Morgan, lead mammographer, explains the Genius 3D Mammography, paired with the Bravera Breast Biopsy System, and how they work at Trinity Health Medical Arts Wednesday, Aug. 13.

Thanks to various donations and event proceeds, Trinity Health unveiled its new advanced 3D mammography technology at Trinity Health Medical Arts Wednesday, Aug. 13.

This state-of-the-art technology produces higher-quality 3D images, provides a more comfortable experience and offers faster and more accurate screenings, as well as biopsy capabilities, according to Trinity Health Foundation information. This helps women with early breast cancer detection, ensuring better care and peace of mind for patients.

Previously, a mammogram took 30-40 seconds and was uncomfortable. This new technology has cut that time down to less than 10 seconds and is much more comfortable. In the past, Trinity was able to see 30 to 40 patients a day. With the quicker, new equipment they can see a larger volume of patients, 45 to 50 daily. And many times they can get patients appointments quicker, some the same day.

"When looking at new equipment, the first thing in their minds was patient comfort," said Sammy Morgan, lead mammographer at Trinity Health.

"The overwhelming support from our donors and the community made it possible to bring cutting-edge technology like the Genius 3D Mammography exams to Trinity Health. This investment will significantly improve the patient experience and advance early detection and diagnosis, ultimately saving lives and transforming breast care for women in our region," said Dusty Zimmerman, director of Trinity Health Foundation.

The arrival of a 3D mammography exam marks a major step forward in the fight against breast cancer, according to Trinity. By providing clearer imaging, quicker results and greater comfort, this technology gives women across the region a stronger chance at early detection - when treatment is most effective.
