Suspected overdose death leads to 13 people charged

NEW TOWN – Thirteen individuals have been arrested as the result of an investigation prompted by a suspected overdose of a 31-year-old victim at a New Town residence on July 24, according to information released by the MHA Division of Drug Enforcement.

On Aug. 1, the division, in coordination with partner agencies, executed a coordinated enforcement operation at multiple locations on the Fort Berthold Reservation and in surrounding communities. The operation led to the arrest of 13 individuals. Depending on each individual’s alleged role, they face one or more charges of involuntary manslaughter, distribution of controlled substances, possession with intent to distribute, possession of controlled substance-fentanyl, possession of controlled substance-methamphetamine, possession of drug paraphernalia and outstanding criminal warrants.

Names of the individuals were not immediately released. The investigation remains active, according to the drug enforcement division. Additional arrests or charges are possible.
