Faith on two wheels

74-year-old motorcyclist on cross-country mission

Evan Brandt/MDN Ron Moore poses with the motorcycle he’s completing his cross-country journey on. Moore left Tennessee on July 8.

At 74 years old, most people might be content with slowing down. But for Ron Moore, life is full throttle — literally and spiritually.

Moore rolled into Minot this week on his Harley-Davidson, having already traveled more than 6,400 miles since departing from California on July 8. His route? The entire perimeter of the United States. His mission? To meet 1,041 people and ask them a single, soul-searching question: “What would you want to say to the world from where you are?”

It’s a journey that Moore doesn’t take lightly. He says it began last November with a simple prayer and a bold request: He asked God to give him a goal so big it could only be achieved through faith.

“The answer was this ride,” Moore said. “I knew it had to be something bigger than me — something that would require divine guidance every step of the way.”

Traveling solo, Moore is aiming to complete the estimated 12,000-mile loop in just six to eight weeks. But the journey isn’t about the mileage. It’s about the connections. In each city, town and highway stop, he speaks with people from all walks of life, listening to their personal messages to the world and collecting their thoughts for a future book and documentary film.

When asked how people respond to his now-signature question, Moore said it often brings out unexpected depth.

“Even the biggest problems can be tackled in the smallest steps,” he said. “Don’t get anxious, and don’t lose sight of your goals.”

While the trip has had its fair share of logistical hurdles and long stretches of open road, Moore said the most memorable moments have been the people.

“In western Minnesota, I ran into some members of the Sober Indian Riders,” Moore recalled. “They helped me find a desperately needed tire for my bike. But more than that, they shared their stories. Hearing their experiences and seeing the mission behind their club was powerful, eye-opening and encouraging.”

That kind of encouragement is central to Moore’s goal. He hopes that by sharing these voices from across the country, he can inspire others to step out in bold faith, even when the path ahead seems uncertain.

“Always take a risk,” Moore said. “Even if you fail, you can still learn a lot of lessons from the experience.”

Moore also credits a strong support team that’s been with him behind the scenes, assisting with logistics, data tracking and offering daily affirmations to keep him grounded and focused.

With thousands of miles still ahead, Moore remains undeterred. His eyes are set on the open road, his heart is focused on connection and his mission remains clear – to listen, to learn and to ask a question that just might change someone’s life.
