Drunk driving campaign scheduled

North Dakota agencies are coming together to raise awareness of the dangers of impaired driving and commence a high visibility enforcement operation to address drunk driving.

A part of the North Dakota Department of Transportation’s Vision Zero initiative, the NDDOT and law enforcement will be participating in a Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over campaign from Aug. 16-Sept. 2 to protect the public by deterring risky driving behaviors and supporting traffic laws.

The statewide campaign will focus on keeping roads safe by reinforcing to the public that driving under the influence of alcohol, drugs or certain medications is not only dangerous but illegal.

“Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over serves as a reminder to make responsible choices behind the wheel,” said Capt. Justin Sundheim of the Minot Police Department. “If you feel different, you drive different, so plan ahead and make the smart choice to drive sober or find a sober ride.”

The NDDOT encourages drivers to plan ahead by arranging a sober ride from a rideshare service or a designated sober driver if they anticipate they will consume alcohol; and to read warning labels on all medications, including over-the-counter options.

Starting at $2.99/week.
