Driver identified in Upham crash

UPHAM – The North Dakota Highway Patrol has identified the driver who died in a fatal crash near Upham Saturday, Aug. 23.

Colten Olson, 19, Bottineau, was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash about 10 miles west of Upham.

A 2006 Freightliner semi-truck was disabled on the westbound shoulder and partially in the roadway on 80th Street North, just east of the intersection with 17th Avenue North. Paul Wiest, 56, and Bernard Boamah, 48, both of Minot, had parked a 2008 Dodge Ram nose-to-nose in front of the Freightliner as they attempted to repair it.

A 2002 Chevrolet Silverado, driven by Olson, was traveling westbound when it collided with the rear of the semi-trailer.

The crash remains under investigation.
