A 62-year-old male found unresponsive at the Ward County Detention Center on Friday, Aug. 8, has died, according to the Ward County Sheriff’s Department.

The jail had requested emergency medical assistance when the man was found unresponsive and not breathing. Staff initiated life-saving measures until Trinity First Response Ambulance arrived. Ambulance personnel continued efforts to resuscitate the individual; however, the subject could not be revived.

The individual’s identity is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.

An outside agency has been requested to investigate the incident. The North Dakota Bureau of Criminal Investigation will lead the investigation. Following its conclusion, the Ward County Sheriff’s Department will conduct an internal review.
