DCB awarded grant for workforce development

BOTTINEAU – Dakota College at Bottineau has announced it has been awarded a $1.4 million grant from the State Board of Education for three innovative programs designed to address regional healthcare needs, ensure long-term sustainability and strengthen workforce training.

DCB had requested $1.5 million from the Workforce Education Innovation Fund, established by the 2023 Legislature and administered by the higher education board. It was the highest award given among the state’s University System schools. Of the more than 20 applications submitted, several sought support for programs in healthcare, cybersecurity, artificial intelligence, mechatronics engineering, construction management, fire science and maintenance technology.

DCB reported its three awarded programs are paramedic technology, an associate’s degree and certification program; the medical laboratory technician associate’s degree program with a pathway to a bachelor’s degree in medical laboratory science; and medical surgical technology, an associate’s degree and certification program. The programs provide hands-on training to meet the growing demand for skilled technologists in the region, according to a news release from DCB.

“I greatly appreciate the opportunity to grow our healthcare programs in the region. The funding allows us to work toward satisfying healthcare shortages as we expand into the Minot area,” said DCB’s Associate Dean for Academic Affairs Kayla O’Toole in the release.

The Workforce Education Innovation Fund was established to provide NDUS institutions with resources to develop and enhance educational programs that support and expand the state’s workforce. Awardees may use funds for curriculum development, equipment and technology purchases, facility modifications and equipment installation, hiring and training new and existing instructors, program promotion and partnership enhancement with other post-secondary schools.

Starting at $2.99/week.
