Commission initiates road design work
Future design work advanced on reconstruction of Ward County 23 and intersection changes at Ward County 14 and 17 during a meeting of the Ward County Commission Aug. 5.
The commission voted to seek proposals for preliminary engineering to reconstruct County Road 23 from Sawyer to U.S. HIghway 2, estimated to cost $350,000-$400,000, according to County Highway Engineer Dana Larsen. It is anticipated the project will be constructed in 2027.
The intersection of County Roads 14 and 17 is located two miles west of the Trinity medical complex. Larsen said all analyses show a roundabout is the most logical solution for the intersection, but the preliminary engineering will determine the best option.
The commission selected WSB as consulting engineer and authorized staff to negotiate a contract. Public input will be part of the design process. Construction could occur in 2027.
In other business, the commission agreed to subdivide the Stoney Ridge condominium property to allow the undeveloped portion owned by the county to be marketed for sale. The decision hinges on getting the City of Minot to take the property off the county’s hands and market it.
The county acquired the property due to unpaid taxes, but the largest share consists of special assessments owed to the city. Approval from the condo association also would be necessary to proceed. The county is an association member as owner of the undeveloped portion.
