A barn fire southwest of Berthold on Thursday, Aug. 7, has resulted in a fatality, according to the Ward County Sheriff’s Department.

Information from the department stated that at about 6:21 p.m., officers, along with several fire departments, were dispatched to 30301 20th Ave. SW, Berthold, for a barn that was on fire. As fire crews battled the flames, it was discovered an individual on the property was unaccounted for. A short time later, in the collapsed structure, fire crews located the deceased body of the person.

The identity of the victim is being withheld, pending the notification of family. The incident remains under investigation.
