VERENDRYE – A 100th anniversary celebration for the former town of Verendrye in McHenry County is being planned for Saturday at the David Thompson State Historic Site, a memorial monument located just north of Verendrye.

Visitors are welcome to stop by the historic site that day from 2-5 p.m. to meet with those attending the event.

Those attending the anniversary will have their photo taken at the former school. They will have dinner that evening at Homesteaders restaurant in Minot.

First known as Falsen when the post office was established in 1913 with Oliver Molhowe as postmaster, the town was given its present name in 1925 in honor of Pierre de la Verendrye, the earliest known white explorer in the region. It is supposed Verendrye’s party camped at the Verendrye townsite, according to history.

Starting at $2.99/week.
