Minot woman enters Alford plea for felony
A Minot woman has entered a change of plea in North Central District Court, pleading guilty to one count of theft-deception-$1,000-$10,000, a Class C felony, on Monday.
Kirstin Marie Laducer, 40, Minot, entered her change of plea as part of a plea agreement, entering an Alford Plea to the felony. An Alford plea is a type of guilty plea where a defendant maintains their innocence but acknowledges enough evidence exists to likely secure a conviction.
The agreement also dismissed charges of kidnapping-released unharmed-adult victim, a Class B felony; and exploitation of an eligible adult-position of trust/business relationship-deception-$1,000-$10,000, a Class C felony.
According to court documents, Laducer was charged after the manager of a care facility reported a Feb. 28 incident to law enforcement on March 3 alleging she had driven the victim around Minot and wouldn’t let him leave her vehicle unless he paid her $5,000.
Laducer was an employee at the facility for about a month and had become friends with the victim until she was terminated on Dec. 30, 2024.
According to the affidavit of probable cause, Laducer reportedly met with the victim in the lobby of the facility on the pretext she was dropping off a gift, but induced the victim to go for a ride in her car to see if it was running correctly. The victim reported Laducer began asking him to borrow $5,000 to purchase a new car from someone in Bismarck and ignored his requests to be returned to the facility. The victim said he finally agreed to withdraw $5,000 cash from his bank account as he believed it was the only way Laducer would bring him home. Laducer claimed she would pay the victim back when she picked him up to go to church a few days later, but the victim said she never showed up and had been ignoring his calls.
Judge Douglas Mattson sentenced Laducer to serve 30 days of a 360 day sentence, with credit for eight days served. The felony charge will be deemed a misdemeanor upon Laducer’s successful completion of three years of supervised probation. Laducer was ordered to have no contact with the victim, and to pay him $5,081.66 in restitution. She was also assessed $225 in court fines and fees.
