Military Gallery groundbreaking set for Thursday

BISMARCK – The groundbreaking ceremony for the Military Gallery will be held at the North Dakota Heritage Center & State Museum’s outdoor Prairie Amphitheater on Thursday, according to State Historical Society of North Dakota information.

The seating area will open at 5 p.m., followed by music by the 188th Army Band at 5:15 p.m.

The groundbreaking ceremony, beginning at 5:30 p.m., will be emceed by Shirley Olgeirson, North Dakota National Guard historian. The ceremony will include presentation of colors by AMVETS Post #9 Honor Guard, “Flag Song” by Clark’s Creek Singers under the direction of U.S. Army veteran Shylo Baker, “The Star-Spangled Banner” by the 188th Army Band, dignitary speeches and the groundbreaking.

Among those delivering remarks will be Gov. Kelly Armstrong; Bill Peterson, director of the State Historical Society of N.D.; Brig. Gen. Mitch Johnson, adjutant general, N.D. National Guard; Brad Hawk, executive director, N.D. Indian Affairs Commission; and Brian Berg, principal architect, Zerr Berg Architects.

A reception will follow in the Northern Lights Atrium.

The North Dakota Military Gallery will be an all-branches gallery, dedicated to honoring members of all military branches across the state while educating and inspiring future generations.
