Samantha Lentz of Minot and Rose Schiele of Balfour have been awarded the first Magic City Lions Scholarships, according to an announcement by the Minot Area Community Foundation, in partnership with the Magic City Lions Club.

The new scholarship was open to students from Minot and surrounding areas who are enrolled in an accredited post-secondary institution for the 2025-2026 academic year. Lentz will attend the University of North Dakota, and Schiele will attend Valley City State University. Each student received a $1,000 award.

Scholarship applicants were evaluated on criteria including community service, school involvement, personal character and a required essay outlining their educational goals.

“The Magic City Lions are incredibly proud to offer scholarships that support the future of our youth — a milestone made possible by the dedication and hard work of members over many years,” said Jalisa Tinnes, a Magic City Lions Club member and scholarship committee representative, in a news release.

“It is always exciting to establish a new scholarship fund and see community organizations pour their resources into area youth. We are excited to partner with the Magic City Lions Club for years to come,” said MACF President Jason Zimmerman in the release.

Starting at $2.99/week.
