Alzheimer’s Association offers free presentations

GRAND FORKS – The Alzheimer’s Association will offer a free presentation titled “Understanding Alzheimer’s and Dementia” Aug. 6, from noon-1 p.m. Learn about the impact of Alzheimer’s, the difference between Alzheimer’s and dementia, stages, risk factors, current research and treatment available for some symptoms.

Another free, virtual presentation, “The Empowered Caregiver: Supporting Independence,” will be held Aug. 7 from 1-2:30 p.m. This class is designed to increase caregiver confidence while reducing stress and offering helpful ways to approach the responsibilities of caring for someone living with dementia using a person-centered approach. The focus is to help the person living with dementia participate in daily activities, providing the right amount of support, and balancing safety and independence while managing expectations.

The presentations are funded through the North Dakota Department of Health & Human Services, Adult & Aging Services Section. They are open to the public but registration is required by contacting the Alzheimer’s Association Minnesota-Dakotas chapter.
