Youthworks director retires, new director named
BISMARCK — Youthworks has announced the retirement of Executive Director Melanie Heitkamp after a 38-year tenure.
Mark Heinert will step into the role of executive director upon Heitkamp’s retirement. Heinert, who has been with the organization for 29 years, brings extensive experience and a deep understanding of Youthworks’ mission, programs and impact.
Since joining the organization in 1987, Heitkamp has been a driving force in expanding Youthworks from a local initiative to a statewide agency, committed to uplifting vulnerable youth across North Dakota. Under her leadership, the organization has launched vital programs, including those addressing youth homelessness, youth victims of human trafficking, culturally responsive services, and a range of innovative support initiatives aimed at empowering young people through crisis and beyond, according to a Youthworks news release.
In honor of Heitkamp’s work, Youthworks has established the Melanie Heitkamp Legacy Fund. Youthworks has a goal to raise $50,000 to continue Heitkamp’s legacy well into the future. Donations may be sent to Youthworks administrative office at 217 W. Rosser Ave, Bismarck, ND 58501.
