Ward County revises liquor ordinances
The Ward County Commission gave final approval to two revisions to its liquor ordinance after receiving no comments at a public hearing Tuesday.
One revision adds bar and grill operations to restaurant licenses. It would allow individuals younger than 21 to enter the restaurant/bar and grill in accordance with state law. The licensed premises also would need to be authorized by the township.
The commission proposed the change following a request from the Hunter’s Den in Foxholm for a license type that would allow the bar to open its food and beverage service to families, much like a supper club. State law includes a provision for bars in communities smaller than 1,500 population to provide food service with fewer restrictions than a traditional supper club.
With approval of the ordinance change, the commission considered the request from Hunter’s Den but gave only conditional approval until consulting with the State’s Attorney. An opinion will be sought as to whether Hunter’s Den will need to submit an application to amend its existing license type.
A second revision allows liquor establishments licensed by political subdivisions, such as cities or townships, to transfer those licenses to serve special events in the county’s jurisdiction. Previously, only county license holders could transfer to special events in the county. The license holder will need transfer permission from both the county commission and the political subdivision that granted its license.
