Sentenced for fentanyl delivery after investigation of overdose death

A Minot man has been sentenced to serve 10 years with all but two years suspended with the Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation after pleading guilty to delivery of a controlled substance-fentanyl.

Christopher Michael Berdahl, 35, entered his change of plea to the Class B felony in North Central District Court on Wednesday before Judge Richard Hagar.

According to court documents, the charge against Berdahl stemmed from an investigation into an overdose death on July 27, 2024. A review of a forensic extraction of the victim’s cell phone discovered messages with Berdahl, who acted as a middleman for the purchase of fentanyl from a third party the day before.

According to the affidavit of probable cause, Berdahl was interviewed by law enforcement and informed of the victim’s overdose on Aug. 2. Berdahl shared the name of the third party with law enforcement, and admitted to coordinating the purchase of “one point” of fentanyl, which is slang for a standard measurement of fentanyl.

Hagar sentenced Berdahl to serve two years of a 10 year sentence with the DOCR, with eight years suspended pending the completion of three years of supervised probation. Berdahl was given credit for one day already served, and assessed $775 in court fines and fees.

Starting at $2.99/week.
