Sentenced for felony theft of sports trading cards, auto parts

A Bismarck man has been sentenced to a year and a day in the Ward County Jail after entering a change of plea to guilty for the theft of sports trading cards and automotive accessories.

Kasey David Bachmeier, 28, Bismarck, entered his change of plea in North Central District Court on Wednesday, pleading guilty to one count of theft-take-$1,000-$10,000, a Class C felony.

According to court documents, Bachmeier entered a southwest Minot business on Sept. 24, 2023, and proceeded to fill a shopping cart with automotive accessories and packages of NBA and MLB trading cards. Bachmeier exited the store without approaching a register, leaving with merchandise valued at $2,177, according to the business’s loss prevention. Bachmeier was identified by the investigating officer after a review of the business’s surveillance video who was familiar with him from prior incidents.

Judge Richard Hagar sentenced Bachmeier to 366 days in the Ward County Jail, with all but six days suspended pending the completion of two years of supervised probation. Bachmeier was given credit for six days already served, and assessed $1,050 in court fines and fees.
