Major changes in mall area construction
One roadway portion has reopened to vehicle traffic while two sections of roadway will close this week as progress continues on the Puppy Dog Coulee project near Dakota Square Mall, according to the City of Minot.
Vehicle traffic is flowing again on 22nd Avenue Southwest. As part of Phase 3, which is north of McDonald’s and Olive Garden near the mall, new concrete curb and gutter has been installed and new asphalt placed. Final landscaping work is ongoing, so motorists should use caution when accessing this stretch of roadway, the city reported.
As work begins this week on Phase 4, the intersection of 24th Avenue Southwest and Dakota Square Mall Loop Road, just west of Target, will close to traffic. The roadway is being removed to install new concrete box culverts.
Phase 6 also begins this week and includes underground work on 24th Avenue Southwest, just north of the intersection with Dakota Square Mall Loop Road, near Riddle’s Jewelry, Cold Stone Creamery and Pearson Chiropractic. Those businesses are accessible from 15th Street Southwest via 22nd and 24th Avenues.
Work is ongoing on Phase 5 between Target and the Dakota Plaza strip mall to the west of Target. Crews are installing pilings as part of a shoring system to ensure safety while the underground work takes place.
The Puppy Dog Coulee project will replace nearly 1,600 feet of failing storm sewers with new box culverts to the west, north and east of Dakota Square Mall, according to city information. The project has a substantial completion date of July 31, 2026, with final completion by Oct. 2, 2026.
