Grown-ups to relive school days at discovery center event

Magic City Discovery Center invites people to break out their letterman jackets and relive their school-day glory at its Night of Nostalgia: School’s Back in Session for Grown-Ups.

The adults-only fundraising event will be held Tuesday, Aug. 12, from 6-9 p.m.

The event will bring all the best parts of school, minus the homework. From an elevated school lunch and themed drinks to nostalgic games, races and art projects, the Discovery Center will be transformed into a multi-level throwback experience designed just for grown-ups, according to information from the discovery center.

“Our team wanted to create something truly unique. An evening that celebrates fun, friendship, and the joy of learning, while also supporting our mission,” said Abby Arnold, marketing coordinator for the center, in a news release. “Night of Nostalgia is all about tapping into those classic school memories, but with a fun, grown-up twist.”

Highlights of the evening will include:

– An Elevated School Lunch from Bones BBQ, served cafeteria-style.

– Professional Portraits by Hint of Whimsy Photography. Take a new “class photo” solo, with friends, or prom-date style.

– Gym Class Races up the museum’s iconic Magic Climber. Winner takes home a prize.

– Craft Projects in the Art Room, themed games, hands-on activities and more.

– Live Music on the Rooftop from Legion of Sound, bringing favorite throwback hits to the “school dance.”

– Access to All Exhibits.

Plus, guests can enjoy pool deck concessions, a nostalgic bake sale, a silent auction and exclusive access to themed spaces such as the “Teacher’s Lounge” and “Science Lab Glow Room.”

All proceeds from the evening support the discovery center.

Tickets are available from the discovery center or its website. Guests must be 21 or older to attend.

Starting at $2.99/week.
