Grants ensure safe housing for lower-income households
BISMARCK – Community Action Partnership, Minot, will receive $22,139 in the planned distribution of $240,000 through the Helping Housing Across North Dakota (Helping HAND) program, according to the North Dakota Housing Finance Agency.
Also receiving grants are Community Action Partnership of Dickinson/Williston, $28,210; Dakota Prairie Community Action Agency, Devils Lake, $18,376; Trenton Indian Service Area, Trenton, $7,333; Turtle Mountain Band of Chippewa, Belcourt, $7,333, along with eight other North Dakota and Moorhead, Minnesota, agencies.
Helping HAND grants address the needs of households with incomes that do not exceed 80% of the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development’s median for the county in which the property is located. Grant recipients must provide a local match of 25% to access the program dollars.
NDHFA’s Helping HAND program began in 1993 and is funded with agency earnings.
“Through Helping HAND, North Dakota Housing Finance Agency has provided over $7.1 million in grants that has leveraged more than $50 million and helped over 8,200 lower-income individuals and families across the state,” said Brandon Dettlaff, NDHFA executive director. “Roof replacement is the most common rehab project.”
