DOUGLAS – A collision between a cement truck and a side-by-side took the life of an 80-year-old Douglas man Thursday, according to the North Dakota Highway Patrol.
The name of the deceased, who was driving the side-by-side, and the truck driver, a 68-year-old male from Minot, were not immediately released. The truck driver was transported to a Minot hospital for his injuries, the Highway Patrol reported.
The crash occurred at 156th Street and 359th Avenue Southwest, one mile west of Douglas, at about 8:39 a.m. The 2014 Kenworth truck began passing the 2022 John Deere side-by-side, both headed west on 359th Avenue, when the side-by-side made a left turn in front of the truck. The truck struck the side-by-side, which came to rest in the north ditch. The truck tipped onto the driver’s side and slid on the roadway, blocking both lanes of traffic.
The truck driver was wearing a seatbelt while the side-by-side driver was not, according to the Highway Patrol. The crash remains under investigation.
