City mowing crews out in full force

The City of Minot’s grass-mowing crews are in full swing, following delays brought on by rainy weather and the annual spring clean-up week.

The city reported its Street Department includes three full-time employees and hires 10 part-time seasonal employees who are responsible for mowing and other related maintenance. City locations requiring mowing and additional seasonal maintenance are spread across the community and include green spaces, right-of-ways, levees and dikes, pump houses, holding ponds and city owned residential lots.

In total, the city is responsible for maintaining approximately 459 acres of grass.

“We’re fully staffed with seasonal employees, and they’ve been out mowing and performing other tasks to ensure that city property is properly maintained,” Public Works Operations Director Bryan Banfill said in a news release. “We have a lot of property to maintain, and those duties are the primary responsibility of our grass crew. We want the public to know that we’ll get to all of our properties as quickly as we can, but it’s a time-consuming process.”

Residents can file a complaint about tall grass on public or private property by calling the Public Works Department at 857-4140, by using the myMinot app, or through the code enforcement link on the city’s website.

The abatement process can take up to two weeks to rectify a situation, according to the city. The process includes giving legal notice to the property owner of any violation, followed by a required period of time for the property owner to make corrections. A second notice is sent to a property owner if a violation isn’t corrected. If a violation still isn’t corrected, the city will perform the work and bill the property owner.

Starting at $2.99/week.
