WHITE SHIELD – The community of White Shield hosted its annual Warbonnet Dance on Saturday.

The event is a fundraiser for the 2025 Arikara Celebration scheduled for the second weekend in July.

The Warbonnet Dance includes the announcement of the new powwow committee and a dance.

The head woman dancer is expected to dance at the Arikara Celebration, while the Sr. Princess (Anaye Laducer) is expected to dance at all Mandan, Hidatsa, Arikara celebrations: Four Bears, May 22-25; Twin Buttes, June 13-15; Santee Lucky Mound (Parshall), June 19-22; Arikara (White Shield) July 11-13; Mandaree, July 17-20; and Little Shell (New Town), Aug. 7-10.
