City to host Peace Officers Memorial Day ceremony

The City of Minot will host a Peace Officers Memorial Day Ceremony Thursday.

The public is invited to the ceremony at 8:30 a.m. in front of City Hall at 10 3rd Ave. SW. Attending will be Acting Mayor Mark Jantzer and Acting Police Chief Dale Plessas.

Jantzer will read his proclamation declaring May 11-17 as Peace Officers Memorial Week in Minot. The national designation honors the 24,412 law enforcement officers in the United States who have made the ultimate sacrifice since the first recorded death in 1786, including two members of the Minot Police Department, Patrolmen Patrick Devaney and Lee Fahler, according to information from the City of Minot.

May 15 has been designated as Peace Officers Memorial Day since 1962.
