“Chief Peterson has demonstrated integrity and leadership throughout his tenure. We thank him for his years of dedication to the safety and well-being of Williston’s residents and wish him continued success in his future endeavors,” Klug said.
Peterson also shared his gratitude for the opportunity to serve the City of Williston.
“It has been a true privilege to lead the men and women of the Williston Police Department. I am proud of what we have achieved together and remain confident in the department’s ongoing commitment to serving this community with professionalism and honor. I look forward to my next chapter with gratitude for my time at the Williston Police Department.”
Capt. Steve Gutknecht has been serving in the interim chief of police role since December 2024, when Peterson was placed on administrative leave during an internal investigation, and will continue to do so until a permanent chief of police is named.
