Freshwater spill occurs near Crosby
CROSBY – A freshwater release from a tank on a well site about 13 miles southwest of Crosby occurred on Saturday, according to the North Dakota Department of Environmental Quality.
Hunt Oil released the remaining 278 barrels of freshwater from its hydraulic fracture process (fracking) onto the well site, resulting in a portion of the released water flowing off the well pad.
Freshwater used in fracking is typically sourced from permitted locations, which may include nearby wetlands or municipal water supplies.
Personnel from the Environmental Quality Department will continue to monitor the investigation and remediation.
