Minot teen injured in bicycle-pickup truck crash

A 14-year-old Minot teen was injured Thursday when the bicycle he was riding collided with a pickup truck at the intersection of Eighth Avenue Northeast and Seventh Avenue Northeast.

According to a City of Minot news release, Minot Police officers responded to the crash at 5:14 p.m. The teen was westbound on his bicycle when he failed to stop and yield at the intersection, colliding with the northbound 2019 Dodge Ram pickup truck. Witnesses indicated the bicyclist attempted to brake but the bicycle’s brakes appeared to be malfunctioning. The driver of the pickup attempted to stop but was unable to avoid the collision.

The driver of the pickup was not cited. The bicyclist was issued a written warning for traffic rules apply to bicycles.

The bicyclist was transported to a local hospital and later airlifted to a Fargo hospital for serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

The incident remains under investigation by Minot Police.
