Firefighters called for gas leak at Williston schools

WILLISTON — Williston firefighters were dispatched Wednesday morning for a reported gas leak at the Williston Basin School District Middle School/Central Campus.

According to the Williston Fire Department, the Williams County Dispatch Center received a call reporting a smell of gas and activated carbon monoxide detectors. Crews immediately observed an active evacuation in progress and made contact with maintenance staff from the school district who reported the activated alarms were located near the boiler room.

The crews entered the school, and fire department detectors confirmed the presence of natural gas and carbon monoxide. Responders worked with Montana-Dakota Utilities to isolate and turn off interior and exterior controls, and ventilated the building.

No injuries were reported and all students were successfully relocated and reunified with their parents/guardians according to the district’s reunification plan.
